1. Objectives of funding

The Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) and the Polish Ministry of Science and Higher Education (MNiSW) jointly support binational scientific cooperation in the field of medically oriented neuroscience.

The objectives of the bilateral programme are to advance scientific progress by using the synergy of a collaborative approach to research. Thus, the programme shall also contribute to health care improvement. Research is focused on neurological diseases of significant importance for both nations. In addition, the scientific cooperation is to strengthen the relations between Poland and Germany.

2. State of the funding measure

German universities and non-university research institutions and their respective Polish partners applied for funding. In the first funding phase (2003 - 2007) a total of 33 proposals were submitted. A Joint Advisory Panel consisting of experts from both countries selected 13 cooperative research projects for funding over a period of three years. In the second funding phase 13 projects were chosen for funding out of 35 proposals.
